Contact Lens Brand Requirement and Substitution

The Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Contact Lens Rule prohibits contact lens sellers from substituting a contact lens brand not included on a patient’s prescription. This rule helps to ensure that patients will receive the exact lenses prescribed to them by their eye care provider, regardless of where they choose to purchase. In its recent 10-year review of the Contact Lens Rule, the FTC proposed to maintain this requirement for non-substitution.

J&J Vision Position: We support current policies that ensure our ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are sold and used exactly as prescribed by an eye care professional – consistent with federal regulation on non-substitution.
