Contact Lens Prescription Expiration Limits

Congress’ 2003 Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act and the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) 2004 Contact Lens Rule established a one-year minimum expiration date for contact lens prescriptions. In its 10-year review of the Rule, FTC proposed to maintain the one-year minimum prescription expiration date—underscoring the importance of regular vision care and updated contact lens prescriptions.

J&J Vision Position: We support patient safeguards like one-year prescription expiration. As manufacturers, this assures us that our new complex lens technologies will be prescribed and used safely.
